Custom Treatment Plans for a Whiter Smile

Over time, our teeth inevitably become susceptible to staining and discoloration. Normal, everyday foods such as coffee, tea, or red wine can wreak havoc on your pearly whites. As we age, our teeths enamel can also slowly darken and appear yellowish or dull gray. The Williamsburg Center for Dental Health offers many safe, effective, and affordable options for teeth whitening.

We are happy to offer you a custom teeth whitening plan based on your needs, budget, and timeframe. Teeth whitening under the care of a dentist can offer superior, consistent results delivered in a safe manner. Professional teeth whitening offers results that last much longer than store bought atleratives. Having your teeth whitened professionally is also the safest way to enhance your smile.

Dr. Stacey Hall will meet with you to discuss your goals and offer the most suitable treatment options for your smile. Together you  will develop a whitening plan to brighten your smile. Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that can boost your confidence and take years off of your smile.

Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening can be successful for most patients. However, there are certain types of tooth stains that do not respond to bleaching products. For example, if you have stains that are the result of a genetic condition, medical condition or prescribed medication such as tetracycline your teeth may not respond well to whitening treatment. However, Dr. Hall offers alternative options to whiten your teeth.

We offer a full range of cosmetic dental treatments, including those that can address tooth discoloration with lasting results when traditional whitening is not an option. Alternatives to teeth whitening can include:

At-home Instructions

Dr. Stacey Hall provides patients with the Opalescence Go Professional Teeth Whitening system. Opalescence Go is an at-home teeth whitening option with the support of a dentist for the best results.

Start the whitening process by brushing your teeth, and rinsing well. Then, place a dot of bleaching gel in the front portion of the custom-fitted tray. Spread the gel with the syringe tip. Next, place the trays on your teeth and gently press the tray to move the gel into place. Wipe away any excess gel on the gum tissue with your finger or tissue and spit out any excess. Make sure to wear the tray overnight. We recommend putting the tray in before going to bed.

In the morning, remove the trays and wipe the gel out with tissue. Use a toothbrush with water (not toothpaste) to clean the trays thoroughly. Store the whitening trays in their carrying case for the next use. Patients typically repeat this about once every two weeks for best results.

Maintenance Schedule: After the initial whitening treatment, use Opalescence Go 1 to 2 nights a month to maintain the desired shade.

How long will it take my teeth to whiten?

Every individual whitens at a different rate so the time it takes for patients to notice results varies. Although, the average time that most people notice a color change is by wearing the trays daily for 2 to 3 weeks. Yellow and brown stains bleach faster than blue or grey-stained teeth.

Is it normal for my teeth to be sensitive?

Opalescence Go is an aqueous-based solution that is less sensitive than traditional whitening. Sensitivity is typically minor and goes away shortly after treatment. If sensitivity does occur, use the Sooth gel. To help in preventing or temporarily reducing sensitivity, you may choose to use toothpaste for sensitive teeth. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for a noticeable change.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have periodontal disease?

Patients with periodontal disease can whiten their teeth however they may notice some sensitivity, especially if there is excessive root surface exposure. Use a “sensitive teeth” toothpaste and nighttime fluoride rinse to help desensitize your teeth prior to bleaching.
